Itinerary 8 days/7 nights : 3 nights in Catania area or Taormina area, 1 night in Agrigento, 2 nights in Palermo area, 1 night in Catania or Taormina area
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL
Arrival at Catania airport. Welcome by your personal driver and transfer to your reserved Hotel in Catania or Taormina area.
DAY 2 – EXCURSION SYRACUSE
Full day excursion to Syracuse. Visit of the archaeological area and of the Island Ortigia, where the city center is located. In the afternoon return to your hotel in Catania or Taormina area.
DAY 3 – EXCURSION MOUNT ETNA AND TAORMINA
Today you will discover Europe’s highest active volcano: Mt. Etna. You will reach the station Rifugio Sapienza at 1.900 mts a.s.l. In the afternoon you will arrive in Taormina. Have a walk through the narrow alleys of this picturesque town, famous for the breathtaking view from the Greek-Roman Theatre, as well as for its medieval palaces or the subtropical beauty of the public gardens. Return to your Hotel.
DAY 4 – PIAZZA ARMERINA AND AGRIGENTO
After breakfast the journey leads you through central Sicily. An interesting, typical Sicilian hill-top town is Piazza Armerina. Nearby the town you will visit the famous Villa del Casale,
Later you reach the south coast, the so-called African Sea where is located an absolute ‘must’ among the numerous Sicilian monuments: Agrigento, famous for its Valley of the Temples (UNESCO World heritage).. Overnight stay in the surroundings of Agrigento.
DAY 5 – SELINUNTE /MARSALA/MOZIA / PALERMO
Today the trip continues along the south coast to Selinunte. The next item of the program is Marsala, the westernmost town in Sicily situated in the major wine production area of the island.
In the afternoon a short boat trip leads you to the island of Mozia,
In the evening you reach the Sicilian capital, Palermo. Overnight stay in Palermo or surroundings.
DAY 6 – PALERMO & MONREALE – FULL DAY VISIT
The whole day is dedicated to the visit of Palermo and Monreale, i.e. we jump from the antiquity into the medieval period. The major sites of Palermo are of the Norman-Byzantine period: Cathedral and Benedictine cloister of Monreale, the Norman Palace with the Palatine Chapel, Cathedral of Palermo
Another peculiar place to visit are the catacombs of the Capuchin monastery. Overnight stay in Palermo.
DAY 7 – CEFALU’ / TAORMINA
Today you leave Palermo for Cefalù, a medieval fisher-men’s town. Afterwards you drive along the north coast passing by Santo Stefano di Camastra with its colorful pottery and Messina, overlooking the Strait of Messina. Back to the east coast, you reach the accommodation for your last overnight between Taormina and Catania.
Breakfast and time on disposal until departure to Catania airport.
